Chicken Fest, Day 3: Eggs invert the story
Day 3 of the 7-Day Chicken Fest. Wings established the pattern: a floor made of anatomy, a ceiling made of mixing. Then eggs joined the corpus and inverted it.
A hen lays at most about one egg a day. So a same-day dozen came from exactly twelve hens — no pooling, no mixing, nothing for the supply chain to blur. The floor rises to meet the ceiling. Wings can never reach their floor of six; eggs start at their ceiling of twelve. And since hens don’t actually lay daily, the realistic answer drifts up rather than down: a dozen eggs represents roughly fifteen hens’ worth of laying.
Getting that answer out of the same engine that answers wings took a new idea: recurring yield. A wing is a one-time harvest from a bird that’s done producing; an egg is a rate. So the model grew a yield window — production per individual per period — and the floor became something that moves with the clock. Ask about a week of eggs and the hen count changes; ask about a day and it can’t go below twelve. The same field turned out to matter for every recurring product that came later in the fest.
The day also paid the usual tax of honesty. Loading real state-level egg data exposed a unit collision the wings corpus had been too uniform to trigger — found, fixed, and tested the same day. That became the running theme of the week: every new kind of data breaks an assumption the old data was quietly sharing. The corpus got eggs; the model got more honest about everything.
Eggs shipped as a first-class product — same citation audit, same rule: if a number has no source, the number doesn’t ship.
